Ich war als Studienanfänger fasziniert durch die Anfänge von Video und drückte mir in Graz die Nase an den Schaufenstern platt. Es war der Systemstreit zwischen VHS, Beta und Video 2000 voll im Gange. Leisten konnte ich mir allerdings keines der Geräte- viel zu teuer ..

Als ich eines Tages von einem Händler (er kannte mich schon von meinen vielen Fragen) dann ein tolles Angebot zur Finanzierung bekam, konnte ich nicht anders- ich schlug zu. Eine VHS Maschine 7700 war mein Eigentum. Und ich um 30000 AS ärmer. So begann alles- die Qualität war berauschend (nicht so wie heute…). Ich begann parallel zur 'Videoliebe' auch jeden 2. Monat mir ein 'Gerätchen' zu kaufen. Zuerst noch klein (A-X1, T-X2), dann aber bereits wertiger (A-X3, T-X6, KD- A66 und KD-A7). Mein bestes Stück war der A-X9 mit den Zero 5 Lautsprechern.

As a student I was fascinated of the first steps of video on the market and could not take my eyes off the shop windows in Graz. The period of the competition between different systems: VHS, Beta and Video 200 were in full swing. I couldn’t allow me anything from all these devices: t-o-o expensive! But one day I have got an offer (about reasonable financing) from one of the shop – owners (he knew me because of my numerous questions). This time I couldn’t resist the temptation – I have bought it. The VHS Machine 7700 became my property.  And I became 30.000 shillings poorer. This was only the beginning. The quality was astounding (not such as now). Side by side with this “video love” I have begun to by every two months one device. At first the small ones (A – X1, T – X2), then others, more valuable( A –X3, T – X6, KD – A66, KD – A7). The best one of my collection was A – X9 with Zero 5 loud speakers.

Nun, die Ansprüche stiegen immer mehr, nur das, was mir wirklich gefallen hätte, konnte ich mir nicht leisten….

Viele Jahre später dann (ich war schon Berufstätig) begann ich von neuen meine Leidenschaft zu entdecken. Zuerst die Serie mit den Holzseitenwänden, den ersten Verstärker mit integrierten A/D Wandler (A-X911), dann die Titan Serie von JVC… 2 Jahre später hatte ich dann alle Top Komponenten.

Wieder 10 Jahre später kam e- bay- und endlich konnte ich mir meine 'Jugendträume' erfüllen.

Auch hatte ich nun ein Haus, Platz, eine verständnisvolle Frau (und ein Baby, welches mir nacheifert, siehe Foto). Ich knüpfte Kontakte nach Belgien, USA, Russland. Meine Sammlung wuchs.

So, my wishes were growing, but the things, which I really liked and wanted I couldn’t allow me. Many years later (I had already my job) I have begun to discover my passion again. At first those were the devices with the side panels from wood, the first amplifier with integrated A/D transformer (A – X911), then was the titanium series from JVC. Two years later I had already got all best components. Ten years later came e-bay and finally I could realise all the dreams of my youth. And now I have my own house, enough place for my machines, my wife is tolerant and understanding to my hobby, my daughter follows in my footsteps (see photo). I have contact in Belgium, USA, Russia. My collection is growing.

Ich entdeckte die Quadrofonie (erwähnenswert ist der 4 Kanal Verstärker VN-990), die Biphonie und staunte immer mehr, was uns die Industrie heute alles vormacht (denke an den ganzen Dolby 5.1, 6.1 und 7.1 Zirkus….). Unglaublich z.B. was es 1975 schon alles gab (CD4, ANRS- um nur 2 Innovationen zu nennen).

I have discovered the quadraphonic (the 4canals amplifier VN – 990), the biphonie and now I’m very surprised what produces the industry (for example: all these Dolby 5.1, 6.1, 7.1...). It’s interesting but it was already produced in 1975 (for example CD4, ANRS...).

The only things make my thoughtful. The quality of the new devices (visual appearance, material and technical characteristics) will be worse. The service is also very bad. My advice to industry (not only for NIVICO = JVC = VICTOR =RCA): Restart the production of the new “VINTAGE” series again. And be ready to see, how many customers would come... PS. My first VHS machine 7700 works as at the first day and surely it looks like from the packing box.
